City Tour ‘Africa in Leipzig’

The aim of this guided city tour is to render visible traces of the African continent’s presence in Leipzig. Although Leipzig is neither Berlin nor Hamburg, visible and invisible memorial sites of German colonialism can be found throughout the city. By highlighting those traces and their relation to contemporary debates around racism, global inequality, and ‘othering’, we want to show the city’s involvement in colonial endeavors and how ‘Africa’ and ‘Africans’, in turn, have shaped and continue to shape the cityscape.

Time: Wednesday, 27 June 2018, 2 - 3 pm
Meeting point: Stadtbibliothek (Municipal library), Wilhelm-Leuschner-Platz 10-11
